In continuation of our investigation of mixing two or more liquids together to eventually get a new substance (i.e. Oobleck, Playdoh and Silly Putty), the children have spent the past two weeks discovering many different textures. They have been noticing the many characteristics of these materials as well as describing how they are alike and different. We have been comparing playdoh vs. clay, Oobleck vs. Silly Putty and Playdoh vs. Silly Putty.
As the children mixed the glue and liquid starch together they began to notice that a new substance was forming in the bowl.
"It feels really sticky, like glue!"
"It feels clumpy."
When the children brought it out of the bowl and began to touch and experience the feeling of the Silly Putty, some of the children were unsure of what to think and how it felt.
Over the course of the week, as the children spent more time getting their hands into the silly putty, they began to notice that it would make a popping sound if they squeezed it hard.
